The last name of the inmate and at least the first initial of the first name, or
The Rhode Island DOC number, or
The SID (state identification) number
Sending a Mail/Care Package
Inmates at the Minimum Security love to receive mail, and it is encouraged. To send mail to an inmate, include the offender’s name, Rhode Island DOC number, and unit address. You can find the specific unit address for an inmate at this website.
While you cannot send books, newspapers, and magazines directly to an inmate, you can work to set up shipments of these materials directly from a publisher to an inmate.
There are a few different ways to send money to an inmate at the Minimum Security. You can send a money order or cashier's check, use a monthly checking account debit, or pay through Western Union. Reference this link to view instructions on how to send money to an inmate.
Inmates cannot receive phone calls, but you can get set up so an inmate can call you. To register your phone number, start on this webpage.
Before you get started registering, make sure you have the offender's Rhode Island DOC ID Number. If you do not know the ID Number, you can search for that here. You can also get assistance by calling 401-462-1234 or 401-462-1234.
Inmates can make phone calls for up to 30 minutes between 7:00AM and 10:00PM.
Schedule your visit ahead of time, or you might get turned away. Plan to visit on Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Inmates must list the names of all visitors on a Visitor’s List
Work with the Minimum Security Warden’s office to schedule a visit. You can reach out to them between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at least one day before you plan to visit. Have all information available for visitors: name, birthdate, and legal government identification. Once you are on the Visitor’s List, you can reach out to the warden to schedule a visit.
