Inmates at the The Capital Transition love to receive mail, and it is encouraged. To send mail to an inmate, include the offender’s name, New Jersey DOC number, and unit address. You can find the specific unit address for an inmate at this website.

While you cannot send books, newspapers, and magazines directly to an inmate, you can work to set up shipments of these materials directly from a publisher to an inmate.

Sending Money

There are a few different ways to send money to an inmate at the The Capital Transition. You can send a money order or cashier's check, use a monthly checking account debit, or pay through Western Union. Reference this link to view instructions on how to send money to an inmate.

Phone calls

Inmates cannot receive phone calls, but you can get set up so an inmate can call you. To register your phone number, start on this webpage.

Before you get started registering, make sure you have the offender's New Jersey DOC ID Number. If you do not know the ID Number, you can search for that here. You can also get assistance by calling 609-777-3292 or 609-777-3292.

Schedule your visit ahead of time, or you might get turned away. Plan to visit on Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Inmates must list the names of all visitors on a Visitor’s List

Work with the The Capital Transition Warden’s office to schedule a visit. You can reach out to them between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at least one day before you plan to visit. Have all information available for visitors: name, birthdate, and legal government identification. Once you are on the Visitor’s List, you can reach out to the warden to schedule a visit.
