There are three dormitory style housing units at the Baltimore Pre-Release Unit. Several programs are offered at the Baltimore Pre-Release Unit to help inmate’s learn skills. They work in the prison’s kitchen, the laundry house, and perform janitorial duties. Some even participate in vocational training offered through Maryland Community College.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

While mail will be read and checked over by Baltimore Pre-Release Unit personnel, inmates can receive and send mail.

Make sure you include the inmate’s prison ID number, otherwise known as the OPUS number. You should send your mail like this:

Sending Money

There are a few ways to send money to an inmate. You can send money electronically, by telephone, or even by walking in to the Baltimore Pre-Release Unit. You can also send a money order.

Phone calls

While inmates at the Baltimore Pre-Release Unit cannot receive calls, you can set up an account with AdvancePay to prepay for the inmate to make phone calls to you. You will place money on your phone number, which will then pay for the phone call from the inmate. You can find instructions here.

You can set up funds a few different ways. You can go online here and create prepaid telephone account, add more funds to an existing account, or check an account balance.

For inmates in the regular population, you do not need to plan a visit ahead of time.

You can get there a half hour early to begin the registration process.

For other inmates, call 410-234-1878 to arrange for a visit with an inmate.
